A patient named Donald Case was waiting for his physician, Dr. Lokesh Vuyyuru, to perform a colonoscopy.

Dr. Gopinath Jadhav dashed into the room, shoved the scope into the patient’s rectum without explanation, and without any explanation to the patient about complications or indication for doing the procedure.

This started in 2002, and as of to date, nothing’s changed at John Randolph Medical Center.

According to a source, now of- fi cials at John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell are upset over articles that have appeared in the Virginia Times.

The source said the hospital is also in discord with the individual they believe is responsible for much of the information published in the Times. That information involves a list of serious allegations surrounding Southside Regional Medical Center.

“They’re upset because the individual has not acknowledged the hospital’s pleas to stop,” said the source. The source said John Randolph’s tolerance of the articles peaked when the reports starting focusing on Dr. Gopinath Jadhav, who – among other allegations – has been criticized for performing unnecessary procedures on patients.

“It was proven in 2002 that Dr. Jadhav was involved in fraud,” the source said,” and John Randolph didn’t do anything about it. That’s why he’s continuing to embezzle money.” The source was referring to allegations that Jadhav had illegally billed insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare; and “John Randolph Medical Center colluded even until this month to embezzle money from insurance companies.”

A former patient of Jadhav’s, Donald Case of Chester, wrote a letter last week addressed to the Times. It stated his experience with both Jadhav and the medical center. (See accompanying letter on this page).

According Case, he went to his family doctor in May 2002 to have a colonoscopy done. But as it ended up, the surgery was performed at John Randolph by Jadhav. Somehow Jadhav’s name became listed on the patient’s wristband as his physician. Case said that’s when he became alarmed. Eventually Case got a bill he was unable to pay. Jadhav’s offi ce was unable to accept his insurance and after calling the hospital, plans were made for him to just pay the deductible. But Jadhav still billed Case.

According to the source, these five points should have been considered by both Jadhav and the hospital:

•Jadhav never talked to the patient and performed the surgery without talking to him;

•Jadhav allegedly falsifi ed the patient’s medical history – and allegedly never examined the patient;

•When Jadhav performed the procedure, he also allegedly did an unnecessary biopsy;

•If a colonoscopy was normal, why would Jadhav tell the patient he wanted to repeat the procedure in three years – when normally, another is done in 10 years, and

•Why did Jadhav not immediately inform the patient he was not his physician.
